INQUIRIES

International Legal Interns

We are pleased to offer foreign law students the opportunity to do internships at our firm. Our attorneys have more than 20 years’ experience in training foreign law clerks, and we have developed lasting friendships and professional contacts with many of our former foreign interns. If you are a foreign law student and would like to apply for an internship at our firm, here is what you need to know:

• The minimum period for an internship is two months; the maximum is six months.

• You will need a good understanding of written and spoken English, and you must be able to write and speak in English at a level that will enable you to converse with attorneys and do basic research.

• It is not necessary to have studied U.S. law or common law, but it would be advantageous if you have.

• If we respond to your inquiry, be prepared to send us a resume or CV, plus two academic or professional references.

• In order to give our foreign legal interns the attention they need, we host only one at a time. Please apply at least 9 months prior to the date you wish to start, and let us know which areas of law are of interest to you.

• Expect to devote a lot of time and energy to your internship, including long hours at times.

• As is the case for all our foreign law clerks, your position with us will be unpaid. The purpose of your visit will be to learn, not to earn money, and in any event your visa will not permit you to earn money while you are here. Therefore, you will need to be able to cover your own living expenses.

• We are a small but sophisticated law firm. We will make sure that the time you spend here is worthwhile. We will teach you the basics of legal research and analysis, and we will give you a solid grounding in the legal system of the United States. We will give you assignments at the highest level of responsibility you can handle.

• Columbus is a thriving metropolitan area of 1.4 million people. There are more than 10,000 attorneys here. There are several universities and colleges here, the largest of which is The Ohio State University (www.osu.edu) with more than 50,000 students. The cost of living in Columbus is generally much lower than in Europe, and lower than many other U.S. cities.
